I've attended many CAM continuing education courses over the years, but Beyond the Budget™ was different. Instead of focusing on theory, Michael Novak walked us through real financial statements, forecasting models, reserve funding decisions, tax considerations, working capital analysis, and activity-level profitability using practical examples and hands-on exercises. The course challenged many assumptions I've held about budgeting and financial reporting in community associations. I came away with a much better understanding of how budgets are built, how financial risks develop over time, and what questions managers and board members should be asking before approving a budget. The workbook exercises were particularly valuable because they required us to apply the concepts rather than simply listen to a lecture. The course is well organized, highly engaging, and immediately applicable to real-world community association management. I would strongly recommend Beyond the Budget™ to any community association manager, board member, accountant, or industry professional who wants to move beyond simply preparing budgets and learn how to evaluate whether those budgets actually make financial sense.
